This is an excerpt of a thank you letter sent to the Library Director from Silvia Cisneros, the President of REFORMA.
"For the most recent donation which took place on Friday, October 17, 2014 we have been working with Theresa Garza Ybarra (Westfall), current President of the San Antonio REFORMA Chapter, La Estrella de Tejas. From the very beginning of the process, Theresa and her colleagues; Andrea J Silva (Organizational Health), Cynthia De Leon (Reference), Nohemi Lopez Rosdahl (Collection Development), and Jacob Jara from the San Antonio Public Library have worked tirelessly to make this a successful donation. They received the books that were shipped to San Antonio from donors around the country, then they affixed the bookplates containing a quotation and a spot for the children to claim their book. After numerous contacts with Warden Mooter at the Karnes City detention center, Theresa coordinated the packaging and on-time delivery of the books to Karnes City. The level of professionalism that your staff has contributed to this effort is impressive. Many of us have grand ideas about how we can help in a crisis such as this, but your staff have come together to ensure that the children being held in detention, awaiting reunification with family or a court date or a return to their country of origin have books to read in their native language." http://www.americanlibrariesmagazine.org/blog/children-crisis |
